URL to like strategy

Possible uses of that Url to like field?

I have several sites some of those are about same theme and one of those is clearly the main. I also have a facebook page.

All sites of same theme have facebook's like button.

The facebook like button you set up in [developers.facebook.com...]
asks you to fill in first field the "url to like".

What I put there is [mymainsite...] (is just an example).
Same thing for all my sites.

The count of "likes" (about 500) seems to be consistent but does not reflect the total amount of "fans" (what in fact are just less than 200)

My question: if I put in my facebook buttons as the url to like [facebook.com...] will that give me a "fan" everytime someone clicks any of my buttons in any of my websites?

What are the possible uses of that Url to like field?

Comes to my mind:

1) What I'm doing described above (put 1 same url in everysite)
2) Leave blank (no idea what the effect is)
3) Put the root of every site ?
4) ?

If "Like" is linked to Fanpage, then it will increase the count whenever someone like it.

That'sa good point so we have

1) All buttons in all sites linking to same root url to main site (increases counter faster)
2) Leave blank (no idea what the effect is)
3) Put the root of every site (?)
4) Link to facebook com / yourfanpage (gain likes faster)

The downside I see in option 4 is you gain fans, but you dont spread your website content. In particular I have and mantain better information in my sites, and don't reply every comment on facebook. Is better for us to keep traditional channels to get in touch with interested people or costumers (our website, our email our phone) instead facebook.
