I thought that only Pages were indexed. I was doing a search and was surprised to see a FB Group URL in the SERP. When did this happen?

I can't remember the search I did but it was not my social circle. Easy enough to check by Googling inurl:facebook.com/group.php - 415 million results. It was reported last October but hardly anyone has picked up on it. Pages are still better for SEO purposes.

nope its been happening for well over a year but another factor might be if you Group is set to public or anyone can join.
The SEMPO APAC page is indexed and shows up highly for "sempo apac" [google.com ] so you can assume that the social weight might have some importance as it seems to be a factor of users, posts and sharing of content in the group [facebook.com ]
