domain name spamming / KW value of domains

I don't know if it is true, but I've heard that most search engines are going to use the IP address in place of the domain name to place sites. So those who spent a load of money to get a domain with keywords in the name, wasted their time? Tell me it isn't so?

backus, I'd say something is coming to reduce domain name spamming. According to several posts here and at SEF, the value of domain name as keyword has already been reduced in the algos.

Okay, domain name spamming, that's something different; but this'll hurt those who are really trying to make a ligit' site and use the domain name, not to span but to give a good name!

Your IP address method would hurt even a stand-alone domain. I've seen some trickier methods bandied about to reduce spamming; one was to use the Whois database to eliminate multiple domains owned by the same person or company. Another was to compare hosts.

But, if the earlier posts are correct, and the weighting of this factor has already been significantly reduced, then we are already being hurt.

I don't think se's will ever go to a ip address. There are to many technological problems with that. Namely - http 1.1/.2. The ability to use a different ip address at every request, makes ip based tracking very difficult. They could however go the route of using the ip internally and then displaying the domain name for people to click on.
