Hi!

I am developing a high-level (read: luxury) website for a service I provide. It is VERY niche, but also very unserviced. I have spent the last few years with the occasional jobs as I build up an inventory/portfolio of completed jobs to show off.

This year I decided to go hard at it- I have a great portfolio. I am getting GREAT results- I have already done 1/2 the total jobs I did in all of last year. So Im getting noticed, my work is good, and its a needed service.

So here is my question: I have a very good URL for this job. Basically, its KeywordKeywordKeyword.com. I am # 1 for this keyword EVERYWHERE- low competition, and high intent.

The problem is that the url is like 15 characters long, and clumsy to say. I have a couple options.... lets say the company name is 2 words, and swe'll call them: CN1 CN2 (they are each 4 letters)

CN1CN2.com is bought but unused. I think expensive to get, buyt they have not responded to inquiries at webmaster@CN1CN2.com

"CN1-CN2.com" is for sale at a reasonable cost. But.... the hyphen

I can also get CN1CN2.TLD where the tld is a modern, descriptive TLD. It makes the name roll off the tongue (unlike KeywordKeywordKeyword.com), and it makes sense and sounds correct.

So where do you think I should go? the hyphen with the .com.... or the slightly longer but unambiguous CN1CN2.TLD? Otr am I being stupid and just stay with the clumsy but well-working KeywordKeywordKeyword.com?

Just to clarify my market, let me try a widget example. We all have a widget, we all need A widget. but theirs a german widget maker that makes high end, luxury widgets, and he names the widgets after his daughter Lisa Ann. He starts with Luxurybespokewidgets.com.As business is picking up, he wants to go from a keyword-forward url to his brand-forward url (which may or may not work better in the luxury field)- something like LisaAnn.com. But he cant get that... so hes looking at: Lisa-Ann.com or LisaAnn.widget.

OK, I think that explains it- I hope that is acceptable!

Anyway, I was hoping you all could help me decide is I should do this... I want to, but my business consultant says stay the course.

Obvi, I would 301 the whole site over so I keep the google juice...

As a general rule, most non-tech people think of .com first, then think of their local tld, such as widget.de or widget.fr, etc.
The newer domain tlds are not widely known, imho.

I used to register domains with and without the hyphen to protect the brand, and all were redirected to the easiest and best domain.

Clearly, the CN1CN2.com seems the best, so I'd keep at acquiring that one.

Consider a trademark as it will help you to protect the name, and may help you acquire domains.

I'd also protect the brand on social media, too.
