Slideshow here: [my.visme.co ]

Data on domain registration trends.

Interesting data point re: .XYZ - While there has been a high rate of registrations the .XYZ gTLD also has one of the worst renewal rates at 11.7%. I smell wild "speculative enthusiasm" . . in part likely / possibly/ fueled by the pubic reports of a string of high-priced aftermarket successes of a single speculator in .XYZ domains.

I guess some people . . umm . . no . . apparently one person . . has all the . . something.xyz

Very interesting report. thanks for sharing. What surprised me was how low on the list .io was, relatively speaking, .live, .site and .club rank higher on the list. I suspect that this is driven by price. The renewal rate is very high for .io 3rd at 68%, which signals that it is mainly used for serious projects.

You're most welcome, NickMNS.

What's interesting to me about .io is the consistency with which the entities operating under the .io ccTLD eventually "upgrade" . . or . . um . . make their way to the deep water harbor of .com . . after being out to sea on the Indian Ocean for awhile.

It's also interesting how .io gets to make coin based on it's acceptance in the VC world as a credible starting point. How that practice evolved to being a bit of a norm would be an interesting story.

I was surprised to see that .info is fairly high on the list. I thought that nearly all of the .info sites disappeared long ago.

If I remember correctly, .com, .net, and .org are the only ones that can be renewed for 10 years in advance, but not sure if this is still true. If it is still true, it should give all three of them such a basic advantage that they will always be among the most registered.

Only 3 million new .coms registered and many of those are only for back-end use. Interesting.

- .com boom = everyone has to have one(or three)
- SEO boom = everyone has to learn how to fix them for search
- SEO bust = saturation of guides and sufficient dumbing down allows everyone to "compete"
- Social companies and apps move people towards proprietary platforms
- You are here....

I was sad to see namemesh shut down recently, it used to be of great help in finding a new domain name. sign of the times...

I don't know how it helps others but this is a list of ccTLDs that is currently in Content Filtering rules on several email servers we tend to be permanently deleting at arrival:

*.icu
*.cyou
*.cam
*.bar
*.monster
*.one
*.work
*.xyz
*.best
*.buzz
*.club
*.casa
*.digital
*.today
*.rest

So much garbage it is not even funny.
