Consensus on which registrar is the best for the long-term?

Looking to register a .com, want to avoid renewal hassle and price increase

I searched WW and didn't see any posts about this, so here it is:

Which registrar is the best choice for a long-term .com registration?
I see GoDaddy is up to $25 / year after the first year. $3 for 1st year. 1and1 is $1 for the 1st year and then $15/yr. (Wasn't really a fan when I registered there years ago, but haven't used it for ages.)

I'm just looking to permanently redirect to an inner page of our main site, so don't need hosting or any other services.

If you'd be so kind, please share your favourites. :)

You don't find these topics because we do not recommend service providers here. Please see the Charter for the DomainNames forum: [webmasterworld.com...] where it is explained.

The Charter for any of our forums can be found on the dropdown menu linked on that "Forum Options" button above your post.

Look for places that offer a multi-year registration all at once. You don’t so often see “First ten years only $X!” offers.

Also look for history/longevity to find STABLE and reliable companies. Agree with the multi-year/value if statement one is fulfilled. HOWEVER there seems to be a trend to shorter multi-year offers in recent days, and subtle pricing changes, mostly upward.

Hello,

1&1 Ionos is okay, but you can't add a DS record, without subscribing to an extra package! Which, from my understanding is against the ICANN's TOS.

You can have a look at OVH, Porkbun and Cloudflare (which is also a registrar, but does not support all extensions).

@not2easy - Thank you for clarifying. I did not realize that. Once I complete the research, is it ok for me to post what I find, without recommending any provider?

@lucy24 - yes, that's what I'm looking for.

@ tangor - yes, I was looking for insight on any registrars to avoid, even if they have the best price.

@JorgeV - I guess that rules 1and1 out. I'll check out the options you suggested. (And report back if that's allowed.)

I learned:

Cloudflare
- offers wholesale pricing ~8.03 /yr
- Cloudflare only supports domain transfer and not direct purchase for existing Cloudflare customers.

Porkpun
- $8.56 /yr
- privacy included

OVH
- 11.99 1st year, not sure about renewal cost.
- wasn't clear if privacy is included.

CanSpace
- 14.75 CAD / year, unsure of renewals.
- made it seem like privacy and forwarding was included, but the first upsell was privacy for $5.

To note, I've also looked at a few articles comparing domain providers and none of them have a matrix of features and costs by provider.

I'm okay letting this thread roll along as a one-off.

I ended up using Porkbun for that domain. Was easy and quick.
Once I realized the cost of renewals, I figured I should transfer all my domains to somewhere more affordable. It would be easier to have them all in once place. Realized after registering that Porkbun does not support .ca, neither does CloudFlare. So now I have to do the whole process again to research .ca specifically.

i've had a Joker reseller account for 20+ years, they do everything I need and the very few times I've required support, job done.

10 years is selected in the cart check out.
