Wow, that's a lot of money. Clearly, Google has set its limits, despite having plenty of money to compete.

Amazon has beaten Google in a bid to acquire the .buy top-level domain.

ICANN, the international Internet regulator, has awarded (PDF) Amazon the .buy domain after the company successfully outbid three other competitors in an auction. Amazon paid $4.6 million in an auction that ended on Wednesday. Google came in second place through its registry service, Charleston Road Registry. Google lost other auctions on .tech and .vip, as well.Amazon Beats Google to .buy TLD For $4.6 Million [cnet.com]

So let's assume Google deems all .buy domains spam because they're dupe content selling the same products found elsewhere and all of the Amazon domains don't show anywhere.

Hopefully Google won't do such a thing for obvious reasons but they certainly could and, depending on the content of the .buy domains, may even be justified.

I think this will be interesting to see if they play nice or take a shot over Amazon's bow for giggles.

.buy? Meh. One more road sign on an already croweded highway.

I'm sure Amazon's collective intelligence has this all worked out. I'd love to see the details of their thinking . . now that they've cornered the market . . on .buy.

Of course there's still room for competition or cornering the online market by acquiring .buying, .buyers, .buynow, .buyforless, .buycheap, .cheap, .sale, .sales, .seller, .store, .shop, .shopping, .apparel, .clothing, .electronics, . .
