The aftermarket for domains, especially those that handle "brand messaging in a word or two", is still quite alive. There have been quite a few decent reported sales, and I suspect far more unreported sales, in the past 2+ years of the down economy.
The future of life and business on the Web keeps arriving. Having a nice address or location will ALWAYS afford the business at the address a measure of advantage, though an address - alone - won't make for success.
However, Data.com is a damned nice start.
