Got an offer on domain name

never sold a domain name before

I received an email offer to buy one of my domain names for 65% of the appraised market value by sedo or flyrating.

It is a parked non-monetized .com 3 popular fiercely competitive keywords name with hyphens. I also own the same .com name without the hyphens but they did not inquire about that. (The non-hyphen parked domain comes up 7 on Google out of 210,000,000 results for the 3 word phrase. Didn't see the hyphenated one in the first few pages.) Separately, two of the keywords return over 1 billion Google results and the third is over 800 million results but I didn't search for the rankings for the separate words.

He said after receiving the appraisal they would send payment via Paypal for less then $2000 or escrow for amounts over $2000.

There is no company name or phone/contact info. I tried to google the guy"s name but it is too common to pin down.

I know nothing about selling domain names nor do I have any idea of what it is worth. I've read through several of the threads here cautioning about an apppraisal scam but if this was the case I'd think they would have inquired about the ranking "companion" .com name too.

I have been thinking about selling a few domain names but I really do not have the time right now to learn how to do all the research to get up to speed. With the market down now might not be the best time to sell. 65% of appraisal doesn't sound like such a good deal.

I realize I am missing an opportunity to develop this but I just don't have the expertise to do it right and can't give it the time right now. At what point is it smart to have someone develop it for me or should I consider putting both together up for auction? or ?

One thread mentioned development companies that will build sites on good names and another about co-owned sites. What phrases do I need to Google to find out about this?

Advice greatly appreciated.

Ok, I found a link to a very similar email appraisal scam, so that answers the first part but would like phrases to Google/info on opportunities to get this developed by someone who knows what they are doing

I received a similar email this week. Relegated it to the spam box without further consideration...

Email generally comes as from <yourdomainname>.cn. I send to junk without opening it.

if someone cold calls to buy anything from you, be it a domain name or anything else, why would YOU have to pay for an apprasal!

basic rule of business, if they approach you then they need to make an offer :)

Just blacklist any country code emails with CN, RU, etc. You won't get that crap anymore.

Unless you skimp on your blacklisting and country blocking, sure you'll still get it.
