How long should it take?

Someone has bought a friend's name.com. They agreed to pass it over to him and say it has been done, but almost a month later the registry still puts the other guy as owner.
How long should this take?
The name was bought through a Tucows reseller, so you have to check at the Tucows site to see the ownership details. Is there reason for concern?
My friend has paid what was asked for the transfer.
My concern is that the registration runs out on the 13th of May, so I imagine it then will be up for grabs.
I consider the original purchaser to be somewhat iffy and just do not trust anything he say's, especially in the light of seeing the updated registry, without changes.
Can anyone shed light on this issue for me, please.
Oh, and no username/passwords have been passed to my friend, which also sets alarm bells ringing.

Why changing a name? Just tell him to open Registrar-Lock and change the Administrator Email Address to your friends email address. Then you order a domain transfer from any registrar of your choice and transfer it to your account.

Thanx cerebrum, your comments are passed on.
However, the guy say's he has reregistered the name.
My question is, how long should this take?

To be honest, I'd like to prove the guy a liar ;)

Once the domain is unlocked and the transfer request issues it should take no more than 5 days for the transfer to complete - if it's an inter-registrar transfer - BUT if it's an intra-registrar "push" the transfer should be instantaneous.

1 month means your friend is getting hosed, unless it means that someone is confused/clueless.

People need to get on the phone and talk/walk this through.

Hi tbear,

The process to transfer a domain between <snip> <edit>in certain situations</edit> <owner edit>oops!</owner edit> is instantaneous save for email approval as needed.

Good luck,
paul
