I want to buy a .co.uk domain name to use for business but the .com equivalent is being used as a porn directory even though the URL is by no means porn related.
It's a really cool URL and I'm surprised it is available but all credibility is lost as soon as someone used the wrong tld!
Is the only option to go back to the drawing board...?
But if it's a really, reeeeeally good name for what you'd like to do, don't give up too easily. Consider grabbing the .co.uk domain while it's available, then hold your nose and see if you could negotiate to buy the .com domain.
You'd need to ponder whether the .com's history would cause lasting negative effects that you couldn't overcome, though.
If that doesn't work, then yes, it's back to the drawing boards.
Try to buy the .com first and then get the co.uk.
I strongly disagree with that. What if someone else registered the .co.uk in the meantime? It would be stupid to think about trying to get the .com only to let the .co.uk slip through his fingers.
It's available now, he should grab it now. If he ended up not using it because he couldn't get control of the .com, the loss would be small.
