Redirecting a domain to new sub-domain with htaccess

I like to redirect a domain to new sub-domain also maintenaing the currect ststus on the site. As it is said it can be done by htaccess. How to do that as I have never used htaccess for redirecting. Can somebody help me out with the code written in htaccess.

Ex. I like to redirect all pages in the site http://www.example.com to there respective pages in [mydomain.example.com,...] keeping the status of all the pages intact.
