If a person or company registered a domain through e.g Godaddy (proxy, private), would someone (other than Godaddy) have the opportunity to see that PRIVATE information? Please explain your answer other than a yes or no.

Thanks

Generally, no, except if the registrar is served a court order or UDRP notice.

If you're using your registrar's WHOIS privacy service or are looking into it, be
sure to read the fine print and/or ask them questions on the subject.

i picked up some domains yesterday and noticed there was a period after registration that my info was in fact public before the privacy kicked in. Not sure what is up with that or how common it is but I wasn't impressed.

From what I know whois privacy services are not run specifically by the registrar, instead they are provided by one of the domain bodies? That therefor requires a call of some sort (probably through API) to have the whois privacy service switched on.

I imagine, with that in mind, that there will be times where (for a short while) the details are available i.e. the time between domain being fully registered and the Whois service being turned on.

I may be wrong, but this was my understanding of it.

P.s. I don't agree with the details showing ... I just thought I'd offer my understanding of how domain registration and whois privacy worked together.

It's probably a better idea to transfer domains overseas for better privacy. To secure my accounts further, I have instructed my register to ask me a serious of security questions in addition to my ID number.
