Competitor May Be Out of Business

A big competitor of mine may have gone out of business. Their web sites are gone, but their domain names are still registered. They had a "back soon" message for a couple months or so, but now the sites are completely gone.

I've been trying to decide whether or not to approach them with an offer to buy their domain names and maybe their web sites too, if they have them on disk still.

The PROs are that they have a lot of incoming links. I'm reasonably sure they sold a whole lot more widgets than I did as well.

The CONs are that they have a few complaints on different sites, with people warning not to buy from them, as they never received their orders or received them weeks after placing (and attempting to cancel).

why NOT do it?

the only people going to their site are going to be people who want to buy, not the people complaining!

Well, I would suggest that you go for it if you can :) There's no harm in trying.

You can purchase their domain names and forward all that traffic to your websites. Afteall their customers are also your prospective customers. :)
