I am interested in purchasing a number of country specific domains, eg. www.widgets.com.xx, where xx is my country's extension. I got the idea when I recently visited Taiwan and saw the huge proliferation of .com.tw websites advertised. Purely as an investment, what would be the best domains to own (assuming they are still available).

Well you could always start the ball rolling with "realestate" or the country language equivalent.

Ok, well you might think this impossible but try the name of the country. I tried this once and .... you wouldn't believe it ... YES it was available.... bank cheque in US dollars and expensive but yes it was there and was secured. Obviously try "sex" just to determine if there has been ANY interest at all in the domain. Then work your way down the usual list of top search generics. As mentioned earlier Realestate is a good starting point.

I think you'd better buy such kind of domain from the registar in their country, that would be much cheaper.
The ".cn" domain may cost 11 USD/year or more in godaddy and other place. But in china, a ".cn" domain just cost 4 USD/year.
