Hiding my address for .co.uk domain

How to hide registrant's address

I'm trying to find out how to hide my address details from Whois for a .co.uk domain I registered last week. The Whois entry would then show this in the address field: "The registrant is a non-trading individual who has opted to have their address omitted from the WHOIS service."

Nominet doesn't seem to want to do it, and the company that registered the name for me says it can't do it.

If you registered it in your name rather than in the name of a business - your registrar can set the field "reg-opt-out" to "yes" and your personal details will not be displayed.

If they say they can't do it - mention the data protection law! Nominet could do it for you, but it's really the responsibility of your registrar.

Thanks very much. I'll go back to them and see whether they'll do it. They've already told me twice that they can't.

My registrar, Godaddy, are refusing to do this. They're now claiming their systems aren't set up to do it. It's ridiculous - Nominet say on their website that the registrar is supposed to make this request.

If I have to do it through Nominet I simply don't see how I'm supposed to do it. I thought Registrants Online might be the solution, but that requires a security code from my Confirmation of Registration Letter. I don't have one. I'm completely confused about what to do now.

And all the while, my name and address are visible in whois, which is scaring me.

You typically get a letter around 2 months after you register the domain from nominet (I registered a domain on March 6'th received letter yesterday) once you have that code you can easily modify the information with nominet

Can't offer much advice for the time between now and when your letter arrives unfortunately.

You may find it quicker and easier to shop around for a registrar who can manage your site properly.

Plenty have no problem at all.
