Buying an expired domain

I've had my eye on a domain for a while, and it has finally expired, but I can't register it with my registra. What do I need to do to grab this domain?

When you say that it is expired and you cannot get it, does that mean that your registrar of choice doesn't allow for a purchase of that domain ext?

I'm just curious... what you meant by it being expired and unable to be secured.

Maybe the question is more than what it seems on the surface?
