Hello Domain Masters,

I am thinking to transfer one of my domains to another registrar. What steps do you recommend to make the transfer process as smooth as possible.

I appreciate your comments.

PS: for example i am thinking maybe its better to turn off my PPC campaigns during the transfer. ( i dont know how long a transfer takes)

I am doing the same these days - probably next week; I have stopped building links for the time being as in my worst case scenario, the sites will be off for a few hours. Hope they won't, though.

Best,

W.

I would doubt you would see much (if any) site downtime because your old registrar's nameservers configuration will be transferred along with your domain name. So in the usual case where you are directing the name servers to your hosting or own server, there will be no downtime. Your domain will resolve to your website either thru the old registrar (or thru the dns/isp cache) or thru you new registrar after the transfer. Of course, it might depend on who the two registrars are, or if you are transferring hosting at the same time.

To make the process smooth, don't forget to unlock your domain during the transfer.
