Hello

Having a bit of trouble understanding how to sort out various domain names with some webspace...

I have one main domain name with a website hosted on it: www.example.com. I have another domain (www.example.net) that shares the space of the main site, but I want this site to look like it is independent. at the moment it uses framed forwarding, but this is a terrible way of doing things for a number of reasons. the other way of linking the domain to the space is just straight forwarding, but this then reveals the main sites domain name.

Is changing the name servers of the one site to that of the other site an option? can you have multiple domains pointing to one space? i presume not, especially when you want to have one of the domains pointing to a subdirectory... but then i don't quite understand all this dns stuff...

i've read a bit, but what i don't get is how the name servers know what to do with a domain thats pointed to them. i'm guessing its that i've never come across a tool for associating the space with the domain names, as in the past i've just used framed forwarding...which is rubbish.

sorry not very concise, just need to get my head around all this

many thanks to anyone who can put me straight!

Chris

Well - first, you are not going to accomplish much with either one. The only solution is to get valid web hosting and setup a website.

Redirects and frames are only a stopgap measure for those with thousands of domains to manage.

...which would obviously always be the preferred solution but the person I'm designing it for doesn't want to spend any more than she has to and as we have space free on the domain already setup. I just want this to work as elegantly as it can... so, are any if the things I asked about possible?

thanks
