Transferring Domain Names

Hi

I have recently encountered a problem whereby my webhost has asked me the following due to a change of servers and IP addresses...

====================================================

Unfortunately I'm going to have to ask you to contact your domain registrar about this. It is extremely important that they change the nameserver IP addresses (also known as host records or glue records) as shown below:

ns1.**.com 83.223.*.*
ns2.** 83.223.*.*

==================================================

I thought this would be simple enough and would be able to do this in my registrars (clicknames.net) control panel. Unfortunately not, they don't have that facility.

After many emails without reply and a number of phone calls, after 3 weeks, I finally got to speak to someone who advised that it would be done 'today'. I am now another 2 weeks down the line and my sites are due to go down due to this not being done.

Would someone be able to advise me of a UK registrar that has a good reputation and a good control panel where i could transfer these domains to (prefferably for free). NB the domains are a combination of .co.uk and .com

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Hello stubbsy, and welcome to the forums.

You're right - this is a very basic function that any registrar should make easy for their customers. In fact, I've never heard of having such a problem with any registrar. I would say almost any registrar you choose should be able to handle this task for you.

However, we don't allow recommendations for specific registrars on this forum - as stated in the Domain Names Forum Charter [webmasterworld.com]:

Specific Registrars
Domain registration is now deregulated and we have seen the rise of many all-in-one businesses who will register, host and help to market your sites all in one stop. Because of this, we ask that you do not ask for or offer evaluations of specific registrars, just as we long ago disallowed discussion of specific web hosts. Many registrars are also members here, so this type of discussion would open many doors that should stay closed, including self-promotion.

Hi Tedster,

Sorry, I should have read the charter before posting for advice on this subject.

stubbsy, are you sure you have to change the IP address of the domain's nameserver? Or switch
your domain's current nameservers to another pair?

You might want to double-check with your host about that. Based on the name you mentioned
(although it's not allowed), CN isn't a registrar. They appear to be a reseller for one.

Resellers don't necessarily have the same domain management facilities as their registrar partners
do.
