25 .info web addresses free

I'm not going to post a link to the sites that are giving them out for free, just asking the question, are there any strings to this offer of 25 free .info domains for a year that I haven't spotted?

There are three companies now offering the free
info deal. Two require credit cards and if you read everything carefully they will automatically renew those domains before they expire in one year, unless you advise otherwise in advance. Other than that, I do not see any negatives. The info registrars are doing this promotion for various reasons including # 1 is to get more customers; I personally discovered one registrar of the three that I really like and will be doing more business with them in the .info, .com, etc. Two, they hope that you will try some of their hosting or email services and they will make money, and of course if you renew the domains in a year they will make money.

It sounds similar to what Staples did in the U.S. several years ago through Register.com. Over one weekend, they offered unlimited .com domain registrations for $1 each for the first year.

I was quite busy that weekend. ;)

I think a large number of people registering these free .info domains include email spammers. To them they are just free throw-away domains. Just like the .biz spammers kill the value of those domains, I think these promotions will do the same for .info It makes these domains even less valuable in the long run by tarnishing the image of the TLD.

There used to be a company, can't remember their name now, but they'd give you a free .com domain names and all they'd do is redirect with a banner ad in a frame on the bottom to your site.

Of course with a 2 line piece of javascript that broke out of the advertising frame it was raelly a great deal :)... okay okay, I was 13 years old and didn't have a credit card last time I did that.
