I'm about to migrate a few domains offshore due to potential legal reasons. I registered several domain names for a yet to be released product in the format WidgetInfo.com and BuyWidget.com where Widget is now a trademarked name. Last week, the owner of the company that manufactures the product contacted me and demanded the domains. One company I found, Katz Global, allows you to park domains names offshore. Does anyone have experience with this type of thing or know if it will work? I may never use the domains but I thought I would try this out and stick it to some lawyers for being annoying.

If a company wants your domains and can prove a legal right to them parking on the moon would not stop them. The registration will be with the relevant registrar.

In most countries it's not so important where the domain is hosted but where the entity behind the domain resides.

Anyway, for a .com the rules are set so I think it wouldn't even help you if you registered the domain as a company in Nigeria.

I agree with what's been said thus far. I've used Katz and found them to be reliable.

I would suggest you request a reasonable fee from the trademark owners.

Obviously they will incur legal costs and if you price the domains well then you should get the asking price.

Make certain if you request a 'reasonable fee' (for turning over their IP) that you simultaneously hide all your assets, change your SSN, move, kill all affliate accounts that might be levied on, change your name, etc.

You never know when the trademark holder will decide to make an example of you, just like the record companies did with file sharing. The damages for wilfull trademark infringement, extortion, tortious interference can include punitive damages, which can wipe you out for a long time.
