I registered the .com and .net for a domain. Are there any restrictions on an “org” if you’re not an organization? I may want to use the ORG and do a redirect from the other two...

does anyone have a list (easy to read and understand) of which TLD's have restrictions and what they are? Thanks in advance.

Of the gTLDs:

.com - no restriction
.net - no restriction
.org - no restriction
.edu - must be a higher level (college) school accredited by one of the US recognized regional accreditation agency, or a recognized international accreditation agency, unless grandfathered in (some high schools have one, for example)
.gov - us government sites, unless grandfathered in (some state governments have one, for example)
.mil - us military sites
.int - international organizations created by treaty

I'm not familiar enough with all of the ccTLDs to give a comprehensive list, but know that some require a residence address in their specific country. Check with the registrar for each ccTLD for details.

.info - no restrictions
.name - personal name (fictitous or otherwise)
.aero - related to aeronautics
.museum - obvious
.biz - suggested for business, but no restrictions

And what's happening with .pro - supposed to be reserved for doctors, lawyer and accountants. Is that one of those "you need a plug-in" things?

No restrictions on dot.org; that may change in 2006 or 2007 but existing names will more than likely be allowed to exist under "grandfather clauses".
