Transferring website contents but not domain name?

How can I sell someone my site and it's positions in SEs but keep my domain

I own a website which is well optimized and spidered by search engines, Google in particular. Originally it was set up to promote a product... which I have decided not to sell.

Now, the manufacturer of the product wants to buy my site, no doubt having done a few searches on Google and seeing the first page results on the relevant terms.

Here's the problem: The domain name of the site is the name of my corporation.

Is there any way that I can transfer the contents of this site to them, removing references to my company name, but keeping the positioning I've acheived on the search engines?

Could I register another name and ask the hosting company to assign the new site the IP address of the existing site? It's hosted at Monster Commerce.

Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge you cant effectively (for both parties involved) sell the ranking and the traffic with out the domain. If you mess with it your ranking could drop.

You could however set it up so that you send all order link etc to him for a fee like an affilate commission and tell him to set up an afflilate program or just work out a deal to have him pay for the traffic per click. Find out what the going rate is on the PPC for that kind of traffic and charge him that much per click.

Or you could just charge him a flat monthly fee for the traffic or rental of the domain.

There is a way to profit from the traffic if you think creatively.

Cash,

Thanks, that's a pretty good idea. I'm already an affiliate for other companies.

Part of the problem however, is that the reason I've decided not to sell it is there are (as far as I'm concerned) problems with the item performing as expected for the consumer.

I don't want to be saddled with a bunch of emails from irate customers who want to return the item.... or have a not so great item associated with my company name.

Thanks Ray... there's a thought.

I'll have to talk to my partner.
