Question about Buydomains.com whois info

I'm looking at a domain being sold by buydomains.com and the whois info shows the creation/expiration dates as 12/09/1969. I know this is incorrect as they only picked up the domain last summer (I tried to grab it when it expired).

What's the deal? Will this date stick if they transfer the domain?

The date is obviously an error either in the script or a typo. There were no domain names in 1969. The only internet was text based stuff that was used by the military and a few colleges.

I thought the same thing.

It's kind of strange. If you do a whois through netsol or through their own whois... it shows the fictitious date. But when you check through the central registry it shows accurate info.

Seriously though, it's probably an encoding bug.

Let us know how your buying process goes in general, I am curious since they manage alot of valuable domains (some I'd like!).

BD is a very reputable and efficient reseller. I bought enough domains from BD to earn 2 shirts last year. Times must be tough. No shirt this year, yet made some big buys. (Would be nice if they put MY domain on the shirt instead of theirs - or instead of only theirs'-)

Many BD domains are overpriced IMHO. Guess they have a "we can hold 'em 'til they rot" attitude since the are not inclined to seriously negotiate. Lately they've been improving their "domain name as search page trigger" function. Still too damned many pop-ups for my likes....but I've seen worse. Truth likely is that a growing prevalence of multi-pop-up generating domains will kill the "type in the domain name as search" business model. Nothing like self-interest (greed?) to ruin a good thing.

Little BD secret: Sometimes, when digging around in their domain bins, you can turn up a domain they haven't yet overpriced ;-) I've snagged a few that...ahem, cough....I'd say were actually bargains. Maybe after 250,000 domains they are losing track of a few. (I'm a fool. Don't take my word. Do your own digging.)

Darn. I hate giving away little (hard earned) secrets.
