Hi,

Who among you here have used Visa Electron (debit card) in purchasing a domain? And which registars accept Visa Electron? Any problems encountered?

Thanks a bunch! :)

You can't use a Visa Electron for a card holder not present transaction. Read what it says on the reverse of your card.

I have received a reply from namecheap.com, and they do accept Visa Electron. I have also used Visa Electron in purchasing in Amazon, thanks anyways. :)

If you do have an Electron card that does not have that restriction on the rear of the card I'd be interested to know which bank issued it. Because all Electron cards are meant to be used only with the cardholder present at the transaction.

Macro, I'm not located in the US. :) I just recently successfully purchased a domain from namecheap.com using my Visa Electron.

I know you are not in the US. It may well be that someone took your card number by mistake.

So, to repeat:

If you do have an Electron card that does not have that restriction on the rear of the card I'd be interested to know which bank issued it.

If you do have that restriction then bear in mind that it may have been accepted by mistake in the past but that you are NOT MEANT to use that card for cardholder-not-present transactions. Both you AND the retailer are violating your respective agreements otherwise. So please stop doing it.

I think Macro is right here - we have just applied for a credit card merchant account and the blurb we have got on acceptance explicitly states that Electron cards must be swiped to that an electronic verification can be done prior to the transaction being accepted.

Obviously though you have managed to use it over the net, so where it says must be swiped this must be in theory rather than in practise.

I got a visa electron through a major spanish bank, there is no problem in buying online, with the card.
Only restriction i know of is some grown up oriented sites, who wants a card they can rebill, but i think i can live with that restriction;)
