How do I snag a "pending delete"?

I have been monitoring several domain and one now has a designation of pending delete. It's not going to be a real popular one (I hope) because it is more specific than generic. What are all my available options to snag this domain? Are SnapNames and NameWinner possible options? Need advice, opinions. Thanks.

If there is no snap on it, then you should be able to register it when it is available with no problems.

if its a .com or a .net and there is no snap on it you cannot beat namewinner.They charge $8.75 which includes registration for 12 mths.If its .org try yourself.

Only 12% of deleting names get re-registered the same day they delete.... So you may be safe. Name Winner is a good way to get the name as it is normal price and they also do the grabbing.

I have tried the DomainAlert Monitoring function at GoDaddy with dissapointing results so far: I got only one out three registered. For the other two domains apparently someone else was faster. I checked: they were not registered as "taken" at SnapNames. I will now try NameWinner and report back.

Namewinner have picked up their game lately especially with .org's.

Most of the drop-catching services have gone to an auction model. SnapNames and GoDaddy/Wildwest are about the only services remaining that have a flat fee/one owner drop catching system.

Namewinner, Pool, Drop Wizzard and The First Name, are all bid/auction type services. All but Pool have bidding before the name is caught. The high bidder at the time of the daily cutoff, gets the name with NameWinner, Drop Wizzard and The First Name. Pool has its bidding after they catch the name, open to all who had the name on their pre drop list. If you are the only one to have a name on Pool's pre drop list, that was caught by Pool, you pay $60 for the name. Prices for good names that are caught by these services tend to be high.

SnapNames cost is $69/yr per snap. That includes registration and unlimited name changes for 1 year. There are SnapName resellers that sell snaps for $39-$49, Name Alerts and Snaps, etc. However these are limited exchange snaps that allow the original name plus 3 exchanges in one year. With SnapNames or their resellers, you have 16 different registrars trying to catch the name for you. You are the sole owner of the snaped name.

GoDaddy/WildWest cost is $18.95/yr per backorder. You have unlimited exchanges for 1 year. You are the sole owner of the backorderd name. GoDaddy and Wild West are sister companies. Wild West is their reseller division. You have the two companies gunning for your name with a Domain Alert Backorder.

Over the last little while SnapNames has lost a few Registrar Partners to Pool.

As far as sucess rate goes, it changes almost weekly as all of these services tweek their scripts daily.

And of course there is Ult and BD who catch for themselves, and are formidable competition.

Your 12% figure (in this context) is misleading.

The names that do not get re-regged are mega junk like name-name2-name3-name4.org

The names that people feel are worth at least $8 are gone in the first millisecond (or faster).

I would suggest placing your bets around (the players mentioned above are good) if you really want the name.

But these names are still taken into account then you are talking about percentage. right?

I say Pool is the best, next is snap names and Name Winner.. I have not yet tried GoDaddy for back order.. so can't say anything about them.

Once a domain goes to "pending delete" what is the average time among the different registars before it is deleted?

exactly 6 days for .com/.net Sometimes 5 for .org

So if name is in pending delete status, you look at the updated date and add 6 days. Example:

Drop time is, and always has been 2:00pm Eastern.

Namewinner closes bids at 1:00pm and many people are now bidding at 12:59pm so don't bid too early...or bid high enough.

MobileComputing.com dropped the other day. High bid was $10,000.

Just to give you some info on the success on the snap services, it's hard to determine who exactly will win. I wanted a .com that was dropping the other day and it already had a snap via SnapNames on it. I put in a snap at pool.com and NameWinner (where it was already entered and I had to bid against someone for it). Anyway, drop day came and went and I didn't hear anything and the snap disappeared from SnapNames so I figuered they had won it. Next thing I know I get an email from NameWinner with the registration info. That was my first experience using NameWinner so I am more than satisfied with their services.
