Inline divs will not line up horizontally

divs are not even

I am trying to align content to the left and right within the same line. This is similar to a two-column table with opposite horizontal alignment in the columns.

I've been using two DIVs set to the same height and using the display: inline property. The problem is that unless I put the same content in each, they are a dash off vertically

Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried using float:left in both DIVs instead of display:inline?

I figured out the problem was being caused by the lack of the vertical align property and a <hr /> within one of the divs. Once I added “vertical-align: top” to the divs they lined up properly.
