I have normal and italic text next to each other and the italic text has a lower base. This is offsetting some objects by a couple pixels but I can't afford any breakage. Why is it doing this and how do I stop it?

more info needed JAB..

it could be anything from default line-height values for a particular font-family, or just browser differences in font-family rendering..

an example of a line of your text where you're seeing this, along with it's relevant CSS, font-family, font-size and line-height would maybe help?
