I have had an email (and helpfully a screenshot) from a customer and our web site main content css layer is stretching far wider than it should in MSie 5.5

It seems fine on all other browsers I have tested on - and I am going to dig out an old machine and reinstall an old OS on it so that I can run a copy of MSie 5.5 on it for testing/fixing.

However, I am rather stumped as to why this is happening as the css code seems perfectly fine to me.

Any clues?

IE 5.5 was notoriously buggy.

There are IE 5.5 emulators/standalone exes available - why don't you try one of those before reinstalling a machine? However if it was my site and it was just a question of the widths being weird I would tend not to bother.

Attach a seperate style sheet for all i.e. bugs and then one day (hopefully soon) when no one is using it anymore, you can ruthlessly delete all these nasty work around style sheets

I use emulators for ie 5 and 5.5 and they seem to perform very well (saves getting the old pc out of the shed)
