I have heard that one should stay away from using divs in tables, but, is it safe to use a div that floats over a table in the same page? Is there reasons why this is not ideal? Do some browsers not like it? Any help would be great! Thanks

Don't see any problem with it. Have you tested it?

It works fine in NN7 (Mac), IE 5.2 (Mac) and NN 4 (Win). That is all I have tested it with. NN4 (Win) does expand the text a bit, but that was expected. I just want to know if anyone has run into any problems doing this.

Call me sloppy but if it works on IE5.2(mac) and NN4 then I'd say it was a done deal. Those 2 browsers are the main cause of grey hair, lack of sleep and trashed computers in te Wilson household ;)

Nick, thanks for your help. Have you have any luck using divs with AOL?

Never had the opportunity to test on it. But they run on either IE or NS6+ don't they?

Yes, but some of the old versions have built in browsers (I think mostly mac versions of AOL) Here is a link to AOL Browser Compatibility:
