i've been told for ages now to style sheet everything to make sure if you hold down shift and scroll the text doesnt move, now i find out if might effect some of the search engines, does anyone know anything about this please?

No effect on search engines. It does affect accessibility and usability though - check through the archives for the many fixed/variable sizing discussions.
