Superscript using vertical-align

How to set with CSS this specification?

vertical-align:super; is the same as <sup>.

Just recalling vertical-align and <sup> are not exactly the same: <sup> has a default computed font-size of about 0.8em, so a smaller font-size needs to be set if using vertical-align instead.
