Is text with overflow hidden indexed by search engines?

I have a site that has about 5000 words on the index file.

I'm rebuilding it and want less text so I'm thinking of building some divs with overflow hidden or maybe autoscroll so that the site is not 10 pages high like it is now...

I am very well indexed and rank high with Google, if my new site has overflow hidden or autosroll will it still be there in the eyes of search engines?

Thanks

While webick is correct that text in an element set to overflow:hidden does get indexed, you should lean heavily toward using scroll or auto so that the user can actually read the text if he likes - which is the key factor in how the search engines determine whether or not you're violating they're guidelines against having hidden text. Good luck!

Thanks rainborick,

So you are saying that as long as I have the css on autoscroll I'm ok?

Yes. As long as you provide a clear mechanism for the text to be seen in full by the user, you won't have any trouble.
