Gap between header and side bar on internet explorer

This is probably a really easy thing to solve...so apologies in advance.

I am currently helping my friend to make a web site but when I view the site on IE there is a gap between the header and the top of the left hand side bar.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Tell us a bit more what's in the header and the side bar and how they are styled.

Hi, don't worry I have sorted the problem. There was conditional formatting in the code which is put there by Dreamweaver.
