Creating product grid with CSS / div

I am adding a static product section to an existing site. I would like to use a CSS / div grid (3 columns x 4 rows) but my lack of experience in this area has proved frustrating.

Any easy to understand tutorials on doing this? Or better yet, any free grid templates?

If you're displaying data, use a table. That's perfectly acceptable.
