On Single Post Sidebar does not Appear

The Sidebars are not appearing on single post (properly) when using a particular wordpress theme. I added the following:
<?php get_sidebar();?> to the single.php file and placed that code right on top of this: <div id="column">

That brought the sidebars onto the single post page, however, the sidebars are positioned to the left of the page rather than to the right hand side which I prefer - as would be seen if you were looking at a blog that had the content on the left side and the right and left sidebars on the right of the content.

Also, the footer file does not appear on the single post pages and I would like a fix for that.

I am seeking the correct code to move the sidebars to the right of the content.

Thank you. Wordpress templates are generally a set of several files. I was thinking perhaps the single post file would be the correct one to make changes in. So, I did add the tidbit of code mentioned and that made the sidebars appear, however, to the left of content instead of to the right of the content. Trying to figure out if there would be some inline css I would use at the code snipped I added that would force those sidebars to the right side of content.
