layout in firefox

hi. i am fairly new to css and having some problems with positioning in firefox.

i have positioned my navbar at the top which is fine. then i want two columns of equal height. i have set the first column with a left float and have aligned the other one to the right with a margin.

the box on the right however sits quite far away from the top navbar, therefore making the left column and the right column uneven.

is this a bug cos there is no margins or padding on the topnav or left or right columns.
