As a newbie to CSS, I'm getting into the basics, but am lost when it comes to positioning blocks of text and images etc, as well as a good explanation of the terms used. One book I saw reviewed, is described as "weak on positioning". As I have to buy via the Internet, I cannot inspect the goods first.

Did you have a look at Amazon? The reviews on there are generally quite good.

Things in CSS land change rather fast, make sure to get a recent book.
E.g. Instead of hacks most of us moved to conditional comments.

I think the free tutorials online will help you a long way, (I started at w3schools (google for it, no links here)) after that read here in the library and seek out some of SuzyUK's posts, they're quite excellent to learn stuff from.

I used to be (still am) a beginner at many things, and "For Dummies" books never let me down. I know people frown upon them, because they think they're too smart to even bother with such simple, easy to understand books and they rather read the complex, esoteric stuff.

I do agree that you should get the latest revision of whatever book you decide to buy. Dummies books are actually pretty good about keeping up to date.

Check 'em out ;)

My thanks to all, I'll look up the Dummies books, they are easy to read.
