Hi,

I just downloaded IETester to install ie6 on my new vista machine. I really don't like vista, would like to switch back to xp, but kinda stuck with it for now.

I was wondering how can i get the "real IE6 back on vista, cuz the ietester isn't really that good. I can't install multiple ie browser prog on vista. How do you guys do it?

thanks

I think Microsoft offers both virtual PC and a (time bombed) image with XP SP2 + IE6 for the purpose of webmaster testign with their ancient browser.

For testing purposes the time-bombed effect is mainly a problem if you rather not download it all over again every time it expires, the good part is that you get it without having to send MSFT more money for a license.

I hope these would be authoritative enough to be posted:
Virtual PC [microsoft.com]
VPC images [microsoft.com]

It might be of interest to note there are images with IE7 on vista and IE8 beta out there for you to grab just as well.

Personally I use a (licensed for virtual machine use) XP SP2 in parallels on my mac. I cloned it after I activated and patched it, but before I upgraded IE. I can have new clean virtual machines that I can upgrade as I need them. I currently have one I use (very) sporadically, the clean clone, one I test IE6 with, one upgraded to test with IE7, one upgraded to test IE8 beta. The handy part is that I can even get them to run all at the same time without worries (well as long as you keep the Guest OS XP: if you want multiple vista copies running as a guest OS, you'll need more RAM than a laptop can hold.)
