Horizontal centered list.

I am trying to make a list that is horizontal, centers, and the list items can have width statements.

If i make elements "display: inline", they will center and be horizontal, but will be as wide as the ements in it.
If i make elements "float: left", they will be horizontal, have working width statements, but wont be centered.

Is there any way to give a list all three desired effects?
