Hi,

We have a requirement where we have to enhance our website so that our screens work perfectly on IE7. However, as of now we are facing some alignment issues on the screens while using ie7. eg. some background colour is going off OR some lines are getting misaligned etc.

We tried to change the screens to run in quirk mode but it is not solving the problem completely. In quirk mode some alignment problem is still there and it is also changing the font.

Please can anybody explain how can we provide the best solution for this.I mean it is a critical website, so running the screens of quirk mode can create issues.

Please advice accordingly.

Hi pranay_iitk and Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

IE7 is much more compliant as regards CSS, like FF/Opera. Most developers will now advise that you get your site pages working in Firefox or Opera first then tweak for IE. Fortunately IE7 should mostly work this way now, with perhaps a couple of minor adjustments, and Then IF IE5/6 require a little bit extra work, the workarounds are generally very well known and can be fed to IE5/6 only using hacks or Conditional comments.

This way the forward compatible CSS should be more or less hack free.

And I would recommend try to get working in non-quirks mode as It's time to confine IE5 workarounds to the "forgotten" file ;)
