Can anyone tell me if IE 5, IE 6 or IE 7 are considered standard compliant browsers?

Thanks...

IE? Shirley, you jest.

IE is a nasty, 800-pound gorilla that does not play well with others.

Unfortunately, they are an 800-lb gorilla, and we need to make sure they are kept happy, even though they thumb their noses at standards.

Opera and Mozilla are more compliant, although I have heard that they, too, have issues.

The biggest problem I have with IE is they have this completely hosed-up idea of what makes a box model [google.com].

To be fair to IE7 it’s not awful although it lags behind other browsers quite considerably and still has the hasLayout problem. What constitutes a ‘standards compliant browser’ changes over time as people expect to use more advanced standards, but these days (on th e desktop) you’d be looking at Firefox (and other Gecko engined browsers), Opera and Safari (and other Webkit engined browsers).
