I'm trying to skin a CMS and would really like some content containers like the ones on yahoo. (the ones in the middle, skinny gray bar containing additional functions with title element in a larger blue box)
I have had absolutely no luck on my own trying to make my stuff work happily in all the major browsers at once. So since I'm obviously not cool enough in the css dept. yet I was wondering if anyone has seen a tutorial around for making css content containers?
While I'm trying to re-teach myself to move away from tables, a little voice in the back of my head keeps saying "you should be adding content right now, fiddle with the pure css approach later" heh.
Anyway thanks & cheers!
Well done for trying to get yourself away from tables, glad you have found the time. I must inform you that you are now on a difficult road of discovery but with practice it can become manageable. Its these IE browsers that cause the most problems (in my opinion) others may want to challenge this, although I doubt it.
I have only ever produced websites using css but its taken a while. There are however many tutorials out there. For learning positioning of boxes (ie: divs) try searching for what you really want, remember you can type anything you want into these search engines, even a 50 word long search.
So, if you are looking for a traditional 3 colomn fixed width layout with header and footer then do search for:
3 column fixed width css layout
if looking for 2 column then modify your search.
you may also want to look at a '3 column layout with fluid center'
these will throw up pages of tutorials for you to look at and most you can use for free, some require a thank you on your part, but not many.
however these are more difficult if complete css novice.
hope all helps.
