I am setting up a web site for a club I am involved with. I have found an existing commercial web site whose layout fits my needs perfectly. I'm not sure how far I can go in using the commercial site's layout without infringing on their copyright.

I'm obviously not using any of their content but I would like to use the exact same menu format, fonts, typefaces and general layout.

Their site is HTML 4.01 and uses tables. My mockup is table-less using CSS. However, I did use their CSS style sheet definitions. I will eventually create my own .css file.

I do not IN ANY WAY want to go live with anything that is going to cause a problem. So I throw this question to you for advice first.

Just DON'T use any of their images and it should be fine. Also I would suggest using different colors and such.

You cannot really copyright the layout. One can probably patent it (imho).

I believe that code is covered by copyright laws. I would check with an IP attorney to be sure.
