Finding article writers

I run a history site and want to find content writers so I can devote more time to my other sites.

Where would I go about finding people like this?

Writers' sites or webmaster sites such as sitepoint, geekvillage, etc?

I have 3 words for you - History Major Students.

Post a flyer in the history and english depts. of your local university. Offer to pay by the article, maybe $5 - $10 (after verification of unique work, which you have to do anyway). You will have more than you can use.

Great idea. I am in Italy so that hands-on access to history majors doesn't exist for me.

Where could I get hold of such people on-line?

I have tried a couple of history forums without much luck and they seem more to be frequented by history teachers, as opposed to students.

I found my writer via elance (though I never posted it there, rather found his company there). He did an excellent job and was very reasonably priced.

what sort of rates did you end up paying? did you pay by word, by article or by hour?

Writers Weekly includes a fresh list of paying markets in their weekly newsletter.

I paid per article as I needed five articles on specific topics. I don't know if we're allowed to list actual prices. But, it was pretty darn reasonable, especially considering that the topic the articles were on were highly technical and probably required more research than the average article (thus why I didn't want to do them myself LOL).

Look for sites by people who have made personal sites on the topic and are passionate about it.

You may be able to get them to rewrite some of their content for your site or develop new material to use on your own site.
