Hello All.

I need merchandizes' descriptions for my e-shops. We are selling piercing jewelry. So i need just several phrases about each of them. But there are over 8000 of them.

Could you provide me habitual level of prices?

As you can watch already I cannot do it myself :)

8000 product descriptions is a lot. As a copywriter, I've seen prices for catalog copy that's all over the map. Some copywriters charge by time spent, some by the item, and some by the word. No matter how you approach it, though, your e-catalog is a big project. I'd suggest you budget at least several thousand dollars for this project.

EileenC, surely I am not going to try getting it for two bucks :)

I'm not suggesting you are. :) But you asked about prices, and I threw out my best guess. I based those numbers on how long I'd estimate it would take me, what I know a couple other catalog writers charge, and what writer's market guidelines list as hourly rates for catalog writing.

OK, EileenC! It's time to pronounce the numbers!

Average description contents 50 words of descriptive text and about 15 words about facts (what it is made from, sizes etc)

What should I expect about prices? What does mean "cheap" and "expensive"?

I give you example mrpiercing.com/product220/product_info.html I hope moderator will not remove the link :)

Boss, please! :) I have no another way to explain people what I am asking about. I do not make the link clickable. I am sure WebmasterWorld community will not buy piercing staff. It's not an advertising, it's just a way to show the example.

I would need more information. For example, how would the writer get the information to start with? Would the writer have a picture to look at so he could describe it? How would the writer know it's 14K gold, and what body part the jewelry would decorate? If all the information is right there for the writer, it would of course take much less time than if the writer had to track down the answers.

If all the information were at my fingertips, and I didn't have to hunt down the answers, I would probably charge a minimum of $1 per description. That $1 per description rate would reflect a volume discount because the total project is so large. On really large projects like this, many writers will want to do a small portion of the work to see if they are comfortable doing the project at the initially negotiated pay rate, and then renegotiate the rest of the project if necessary.

Every project is different, so until all the details are specified, it's hard to say. I hope that helps you somewhat. :)

Sounds right. I guess we should continue via PM.

By the way, it was an offer. Does someone have other ideas about level of the prices?
