Terms, Conditions and Privacy Policy

Hi folks,

I know this can be a very dangerous question, because there are many variables in the matter, such a country, and operating situations etc.

However *are* there any good templates/guidelines to writing terms & conditions (of a non-ecommerce site) and privacy policy.

I know unfortunately that UK and US law can be very different, especially with regards to cookies and certain UK/EU laws, but anything will help right now.

It's hard to find a decent example and 'fit it' to your use, and Google attempts just seem to bring up 1,001 privacy policies for various websites.

Can anyone help at all? :D

Thanks.

Regards,

Joel

Joel, welcome to WebmasterWorld.

To be sure that you have a suitable policy for your operation it would be best to use legal services to ensure it meets with your specific needs.

In the meantime, you might find this disclosure [truste.org] from eTrust useful.

Thanks engine.

I unfortunately thought that might be the case, with them being such variable and complicated things.

However, the eTrust disclosure link is a helping start for a privacy policy, which is my main worry ;)

Thanks again.

JoelyUK, I'd also recommending looking at some of the sites in your market space and seeing what kind of privacy policies they have. You can pick and choose key features as you build your own.

Personally, I'm a believer in simple language in privacy policies. Rather than paragraphs of dense legalese, say what you mean. If you won't ever sell someone's e-mail address, say so in plain language and big letters. The clarity and openness of your approach will do more to build confidence than the specific wording.
