How to Trademark in the UK

Ok, a current/recent thread got me thinking:-

I now own approx 10-15 domain names and run websites on most of them. (some are just sitting waiting for websites to be created.)

I have never really thought about registering the domain names as trademarks (after all I just started with a couple of small sites to make a few £s - now the sites are making a few more £££ I would not want to lose ownership of the domain names)

So do most people register their domain names as trademarks? if so do people register the trademark with the www and the tld or without?

Is it really necessary to register domain names as trademarks?

Do people know of any good trademark registering service - a quick search on Google indicates that this service costs £300 upwards! so £300 * 15 = £4,500 :(

Going back 10+ years when I was in the UK I used to use Wilson Gunn & Ellis who were pretty good and reasonable.....A quick check reveals things have changed today.
