I need some inspiration.

Can anyone recommend some examples of sites for web design companies that you know are successful at turning visitors into leads?

I need to come up with ideas for several web design company sites that have lots of traffic but aren't producing the leads & sales they should. I have free reign to customize the service offerings and prices, but I'm not experienced with this so I need some role models.

Anyone know of a web design company site that is especially good at generating sales?

Hi, Alpacaherder. I'm not sure if this forum will get you the best answers, but certainly content is one key to a compelling site.

It sounds like conversion to an inquiry is your objective. I.e., the site is getting traffic, but few serious leads result.

Looking at the issue from a content perspective, I'd try to include a variety of text and graphical content to keep visitors on site and to establish the firm's expertise. Well-integrated into these content elements should be bvious action buttons or links that encourage the visitor to inquire. Case studies are one example of action-driving content. A visitor can see how the web design firm increased sales for another company, and be encouraged to click to find out how the design firm can solve his problem, too.

The design of the site certainly could be the issue, but it is more likely to be the "message." Therefore, you should not only work on the design, but look for a good copy writer who can work over the sales message to ensure that it communicates properly. Your sales message must cause your reader feel a need for your produce and want to purchase it. Writing sales content is an art which most of us don't have.
